Persia or Iran
the land famous for its cuisine, culture, traditions and customs is
also world famous for its rugs and carpets.
Persian rug is
world famous and is passed on as heirloom from one generation to the
next. Rug weaving started as a pastime and a means to keep warm during
winter for nomadic tribes soon gained international recognition.
These hand
made rugs have motifs and images woven all over them indicating a
story which has been passed on by earlier generation of weavers. As
the stories get woven again and again their interpretation changes. So
every rug is different as the hand that weaves it is different.
The Persian
rug has a reputation unmatched and unparallel in the entire rug
industry and is looked at as sort of a bench mark. It has evolved over
the centuries and the artists have fine tuned the art to a level of
perfection never seen before.
The
intricately woven patterns and designs starting from a single piece of
wool and the natural colors and dyes used make it a designer item
everyone desires to own. In Iran it is an industry which has prospered
and evolved with the times keeping the traditions alive but at the
same time bringing about changes suitable for the new urban customer.
There are
different types of Persian rugs available each carrying in it a flavor
of the region where it is weaved. Each tribe has its own style of
weaving distinct from the other.
The most
famous types are Baluch rugs, Bakhtiari rugs, Borchelu rugs, Gabbeh
rugs, Hamadan rugs, Heriz rugs, Hussainabad rugs, Kurds rugs, Luri
rugs, Malayer rugs, Qashqai rugs, Senneh rugs, Shiraz rugs, Sirjan
rugs, Tarom rugs, Wiss rugs and Zanjan rugs.
The tribes
use combination of colors which are not just appealing to the eye but
which undergo a metamorphosis over a period of time.
As the
colors used are natural dyes they tend to change over the years when
they are exposed to the elements of nature giving them a totally
different shade from the original rug. You can determine the size,
shape and color of the Persian rug you want to own depending on your
budget and the dimensions of your living room, bedroom or hallway.
So go and
flaunt your Persian rug to all your loved ones.
